NextEra Method

A calm operating system for shipping

How we run delivery in the open — principles, definition of done, and Discover → Design → Build → Scale, with security in the same ticket.

01

Principles

Own the outcome

We measure success by what ships and stays standing — not by hours logged or slide decks delivered.

Security in the same ticket

Auth, data handling, and abuse cases travel with the feature. A policy that isn't in the PR template doesn't change behavior.

Small senior teams

The people in the room are the people who ship. No junior bait-and-switch; specialists join for depth, not theater.

Say no early

If the engagement shape is wrong — lowest bid, no access, no decision-makers — we decline rather than burn your budget.

02

Definition of done

A ticket isn't done when the code merges — it's done when the next person can run, observe, and secure what changed.

  • Acceptance criteria met and demoable in a real environment
  • Tests or checks that catch the failure modes we care about
  • Observability: logs/metrics/alerts enough to operate what shipped
  • Security notes for the change (threats touched, controls added)
  • Handoff: docs or runbook updates the next engineer can use
acceptance:
  - demoable in a real environment
  - failure modes checked
  - observability owned
  - security notes for the change
  - handoff the next engineer can use

03

Cadence

Kickoff workshop

Goals, access, definition of done, and the first week's tickets — written before coding starts.

Weekly demos

Working software in your hands — not status theater.

Shared backlog

One prioritized queue with clear owners and exit criteria.

Async by default

Written updates and decisions; meetings earn their place.

Clean handoff

You own the code, the docs, and the muscle memory when we step back.

04

Discover → Design → Build → Scale

Phase detail is edited in the portal so expectations stay honest as engagements evolve.

01

Discover

We dig into your goals, constraints, and existing systems to understand the full picture.

Deliverables

  • Problem framing and success criteria
  • Architecture & security snapshot
  • Recommended engagement shape

Artifacts

  • Discovery notes
  • Risk register (draft)
  • Rough effort ranges

Expectations

Kickoff within 1 business day of signed start; findings draft in the discovery window.

02

Design

We propose a pragmatic architecture and delivery plan mapped to clear milestones.

Deliverables

  • Target architecture and data flows
  • Authn/authz and secrets approach
  • Delivery plan with milestones

Artifacts

  • ADRs or design notes
  • Threat notes for critical paths
  • Sprint-ready backlog slice

Expectations

Design decisions written down before build starts ΓÇö no tribal we'll figure it out later.

03

Build

We deliver in tight iterations with continuous testing, reviews, and demos.

Deliverables

  • Working software in your environments
  • Tests and CI gates on every PR
  • Observable releases with rollback path

Artifacts

  • PRs with review
  • Runbooks / README updates
  • Demo notes each cycle

Expectations

Async updates on cadence you agree; blockers raised the same day they're found.

04

Scale

We harden, monitor, and optimize so your solution grows reliably with you.

Deliverables

  • Hardening pass and debt triage
  • Knowledge transfer sessions
  • Optional ongoing support or squad continuity

Artifacts

  • Handoff checklist
  • Ops / on-call notes
  • Follow-up roadmap

Expectations

Handoff scheduled before engagement end; support response within 1 business day if retained.
